The Blue Rock ‘Shades of Beauty’ Program
Today’s girls – Tomorrow’s women
The Blue Rock Foundation’s ‘Shades of Beauty’ program has been created to challenge the negative portrayals and perceptions of women and girls portrayed in the media through advertising, music videos, film, TV and fashion.
The aim of the program is to educate young women about self worth and the importance of self-acceptance through undertaking a series of fun, engaging and challenging interactive workshops that encourage self-value, self-respect and empowerment.
These workshops include:
- Am I a music video girl?
- My body and hair don’t get along
- I want to be a supermodel
- Bad hair day
- Fast food junkie
- I am not a Princess, I am a Queen
- Fashion frenzy
- Lady or Ladette
The goal of the program is to encourage young women to understand the true definition of ‘beauty’ and to further enhance their inner beauty by promoting a healthy body image, self esteem, hygiene and an understanding of their true self.
By encouraging and empowering young women to take ownership of who they are and what they stand for, a forum for change and self-acceptance will emerge.
The workshops will run with a group of eight young women aged 15-17 and will cover the following topics:
- Self esteem/self worth/confidence/social skills
- Image and presentation
- Grooming and hygiene
- Healthy relationships/bullying
- Sexual health
- Vision building/goal setting/decision making
- Conflict resolution and management of emotions
- Etiquette
- Health and wellness
Guest speakers such as stylists and makeup artists will also assist in conducting workshops.
The aim is to transform each young woman’s perception of who she is by giving her a complete holistic make over, starting internally and then externally.
At the end of the program, the young woman will graduate and receive a certificate as well as an outing to a restaurant where she can put into practice the self-development and etiquette skills she has learnt throughout the program.
