Mark Gasson

Location: Palm Beach, QLD

Mark’s passion has always been to help others, whilst leading an interesting life.  This drive led him to do both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Philosophy and Ethics and start his career as a university lecturer introducing students to thinking about different ways to live and work in the modern world.  The value he places on helping others as well as his love of water resulted in various rescue focused voluntary roles over a number of years including Rescue Boat Coxswain for the RNLI (UK), Unit Commander and Rescue Boat Captain NSW Marine Rescue (Australia) and Swift Water Rescue Operative  Rapid Response International Flood Rescue Team (UK).

Alongside his voluntary work Mark has held many Executive leadership, Consultant and CEO roles for government, NGOs and private companies and has consulted on environmental issues, social enterprise, business and corporate partnerships. He sits on a number of Not for Profit boards and the NSW Rescue Captains Committee. He is also a qualified Search and Rescue Leader, Coroner and Justice of the Peace.

He was a founding member of The Northern Rivers Anti Bullying Alliance and is a member of the Lions Club and Mens Shed.

His experience across a range of disciplines from Search and Rescue to community leadership recently led to a role with the Australian Department of Environment as an Antarctic Station Base Commander, managing an isolated community of forty five people over an Antarctic winter and summer for a continual period of fourteen months.

Mark has been a mentor to two young Indigenous men for the last decade and works with them to maximize their potential as they enter young adulthood. He is a firm believer that an individual learns from the people around them and recognizes the enormous impact his mentors have had in helping him stay true to his passions whilst simultaneously achieving his life goals.
